The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has demonstrated certain growth in achieving sustainable development goals overall, including progress on gender equality (SDG 5) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10) over the past five years. However, the significant socio-economic gap between the organisation’s member states and partner countries also reflects challenges in achieving SDG 5 and SDG 10.
There are examples of developing tools designed to improve the efficiency of addressing the UN SDG 5 and SDG 10 agenda. Since 2018, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Women's Forum has been held on a permanent basis as a platform for capacity building for women within the SCO Member States.
The goal of the session is to identify and assess the priority of risks to sustainable development in the field of gender policy and inclusion, and to propose measures to empower women and vulnerable groups, including within the educational, medical, and socio-economic spheres.
