Today, the global bioeconomy market is estimated at USD 2–4 trillion, with growth projected to reach USD 30 trillion by 2050. The SCO+ countries are entering this race with significant resource and scientific potential.
On January 1, 2026, Russia launched the national project "Technological Provision of the Bioeconomy", which consolidates three federal initiatives: the organization of production and marketing of bioeconomy products, scientific and technological support, and personnel development for the industry. By 2030, it is planned to increase the level of technological independence to 40%, boost production volume by 96%, and expand the market from RUB 440 billion to RUB 700 billion. The scientific and technological foundation for the implementation of the national project is provided by the Action Plan for the Development of Nature-Like Technologies for 2026–2028, which, along with the "Scientific Research" and "Megascience Infrastructure" blocks, includes a dedicated "Human Resources" section. In 2026, it is planned to develop new master's degree programmes, and in 2027–2028, to provide professional development for teaching staff with an emphasis on convergent education, as well as to organize internships for young researchers at leading organizations. Experts see the high development potential of the bioeconomy in the necessity of import substitution and ensuring food security, the development of biotechnologies, and the transition from an extensive resource-based management model to a precision model utilizing regionally specific bioresources.
The goal of the session is to exchange experience and develop recommendations for the development of the bioeconomy as a factor of technological sovereignty and economic security for the SCO+ countries in the context of global climate change and the transition to sustainable economic models.
